Overall, 66% of women younger than 45 years of age received chemotherapy compared with 44% of women between 50 and 54 years of age, 31% of women between 55 and 59 years of age, and 18% of women between 60 and 64 years of age.5 In that study, the decreasing pattern of chemotherapy use with age continued even after adjustment was made for prognostic factors.5 Cancer registry data are frequently obtained from hospital discharge abstracts.
